How can we study the correlation of two variables showing spatial and/or temporal autocorrelation?

Option 1: Can we eliminate the autocorrealtion of each variable, and then study the correlation? If so, how?
Option 2: Whether are there methods that can directly model the correlation of the two variables with autocorrelated structure?
